Student Supports

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Public Schools believes all people are entitled to a safe, caring and respectful learning environment.

Students are expected to read andÌýfollow the District Code of Conduct and all other expectations outlined in their school's student handbook.Ìý ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ also believes all people can learn.Ìý WeÌýrecognize there are times whenÌýstudents have challenges beyond school that impact their success. The district is continually building our learning supports and our partnerships within the community to help students meet their basic needs andÌýkeep their focus where it needs to be - in the classroom.

School Counselors

A school counselor is a person who is professionally trained to help students realize their potential as unique individuals. For this reason, all students have school counseling services available to them.

The purpose of the counseling program is to promote and enhance the learning process. The goal is to enable all students to achieve success in school and to develop into contributing members of our society. School counselors help students with academics, career exploration, and social andÌýemotionalÌýdevelopment by deploying a variety of approaches some of which are outlined below.

  • Individual CounselingÌý- helps students resolve or cope constructively with their problems and developmental concerns.Ìý
  • Small Group CounselingÌý- involves a counselor working with 5-8 students. Students are able to share ideas, give and receive feedback, increase their awareness, gain new knowledge, practice skills, and think about their goals and actions. General topics are related to personal and academic development.Ìý
  • Classroom InstructionÌý- is a planned developmental program of activities in the classroom designed to foster students’ academic and emotional needs.Ìý
  • ConsultationÌý- is a collaborative partnership in which counselors work with parents, teachers, administrators, and the student service team to plan and implement strategies to help students be successful in school.

If you have any questions, please call your school and ask to speak to the counselor.
